Chapter 3 - My Personal Commitment
When I was four years old I gave my heart to the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. We were worshipping in a little country church called Matthews Tabernacle, near Lake City, South Carolina, where my father was preaching in a revival meeting. In fact, it was the first revival meeting held after the church was completed. The church was built by my father and another man on land given by a farmer named Matthews.
From that special day in 1903 I never turned aside from my commitment to God. Eight years later, on the invitation of the Conference Superintendent, Dr. Jesse Simmons, and the pastor, Reverend Charles Readling, I went back to Matthews Tabernacle to preach in the Sunday morning service. I preached and gave my testimony to an enthusiastic congregation, now worshipping in a fine new brick building with all modern facilities.
